Fishing at Clooncunny Cottage Lough Aneeg - the small lake at the bottom of Clooncunny's meadows - is very secluded and rarely fished, and produced over 100 rudd in one afternoon last year. There is a rowing boat belonging to Clooncunny cottage on Lough Annaghmore (locally known as Drinane Lake). This lake is a stroll away from Clooncunny and has produced the Irish record rudd. In addition there are literally dozens of lakes within a 10 mile radius of Clooncunny, as well as the Rivers Shannon, Boyle, Inny, Lung, Camlin, Feorish, Rinn, Owenmore, and local canals. Fishing in the Strokestown area Within a seven-mile radius there are 65 lakes, varying in size from 1 to 6000 acres with many over 20 acres in area . There are also approximately 10 miles of river bank fishing in the district, and major work has been carried out on many of the lakes, providing fishing stands and accessibility for the convenience of anglers. All lakes have an abundance of pike, perch, bream, rudd, brown trout, eels, and many hybrids. Tench has also been found in some of the lakes. Many specimen rudd have been caught in these waters, most notably Lough Annaghmore. Unlike much of the recognised coarse angling waters in other areas, these waters have not been heavily fished and may be regarded as virgin waters. |
